I BE Black Girl

History

This project was born out of the need for Black women in Omaha to connect in a genuine and intentional way. We aim to provide a network and intentional space for organic mentorship, support and patronize black women owned businesses as well as have collective impact through philanthropic dollars we raise and invest ourselves.

This is about a space where you can do all of the mentioned above and just be a Black Girl or Woman—whatever that means to you.

Mission & Vision

To provide social spaces & sisterhood that invest in the lives of Black girls & women in Greater Omaha for optimal impact—individually and collectively.

Where the liberating, empowering narrative that we intentionally craft about who Black girls & women BE in Omaha becomes the new norm.

FRAMING & STRATEGIZING

The term, I Be..famed by author Bell Hooks in Be Boy Buzz inspired the founding member to fill social spaces with the essence and energy of what it means to BE e a Black girl—where we can all exist.

STRATEGIES

We must normalize our collective voices and spotlight opportunity and successes. We must operationalize our convening power by putting ideas into action and getting the optimal impact we have defined for ourselves.

§  Growing | affirmation and personal development

§  Connecting | mixers and mentorship

§  Giving | investing in communities and projects

Ways to Engage

Networking Socials: These events are held multiple times through the year as an opportunity for women to engage and connect.

Talk Back Sessions: These sessions will be held multiple times a year and will tackle and create space to discuss tough topics faced by Black women like self care, healthy relationships, etc.

IBBGives | Giving Circle: This is a venture launched for Black women to collective invest in community programs and organizations that support Black women and girls. Stay tuned for more information coming in July 2018!
